MAE at East Brunswick HS Science Night

On Friday, February 23rd, 2018 the East Brunswick High School Science Honors Society, with the help of its advisors hosted a Science Night for fourth and fifth graders from two East Brunswick elementary schools. The society organized the event with a view to increasing interest in science both scientific fields and contemporary scientific issues among these children.

Professors Assimina Pelegri and Onur Bilgen of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at Rutgers University hosted two unmanned vehicle and additive manufacturing exhibits and introduced the principles of operation and manufacturing of aerial drone and 3-D printers to the young participants. The MAE department also showcased the Rutgers Formula Racing team with their student-built race car illustrating the department’s dedication to promoting K-12 outreach. The night received positive reviews from both children and parents, and, as hoped, allowed participants to survey and engage with numerous scientific areas in ways that were memorable, interactive, and entertaining.
