MAE Students Awarded NASA University Student Research Challenge Grant

A group of eight Scarlet Knights has been selected for a NASA University Student Research Challenge (USRC) grant! This would make Rutgers the only University to have received this prestigious award twice.

NASA’s USRC grant awards students for innovative ideas that can make contributions to the future of aviation. Alongside the technical objectives, this grant challenges students to act as entrepreneurs and raise money for their projects through crowdfunding.

“Our project, STRATO, is an open-source system to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by integrating miniature electric jets into aircraft control surfaces.” Commented Daulton James, Team Leader. “We hope to engage the general public on these new, sustainable technologies and build a better future for everyone.”

The team has a crowdfunding page live, which can be accessed here for any individuals who would like to learn more and contribute to the project: https://one.rutgers.edu/campaigns/strato-fundraiser#/
