Undergraduate researcher Adeline Ripberger has been awarded a 2022-2023 E. Wayne Kay Undergraduate Scholarship from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. This award acknowledges the work she has been doing, and will continue doing over the next year, with Dr. Rajiv Malhotra on scalable 3D printing of thermosets and functional materials. Her past work has also been supported by a NSF funded REU grant.

Daulton James, an MAE senior, has recently been awarded the prestigious DOD SMART Scholarship. The SMART scholarship provides funds for a student to cover the costs associated with graduate studies with a stipend. As part of this scholarship, Daulton will spend his summers as an intern at the U.S. Army Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. Following completion of his graduate studies, Daulton will continue as an employee with Aberdeen.

Jeremy Cleeman (MAE UG '20, 2nd yr. PhD) won a prestigious Graduate Research Fellowship from the National Science Foundation. This competitive fellowship recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported STEM disciplines who are pursuing research-based graduate degrees at US institutions. The fellowship spans five years of financial support including an annual stipend and tuition. Jeremy will use this support to work with Dr. Rajiv Malhotra (MAE) and Dr.

ME senior Catherine Nachtigal was selected as an MIT AeroAstro Distinguished Scholar. This program provides full support and stipend for awarded students to pursue their graduate studies at MIT's Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics for up to five years along with a supplement for conference travel. Catherine recently completed her J. J. Slade Honors Thesis, titled "In-air Polymerization and Crosslinking of Monomers during Electrospray Deposition," in the lab of Prof. Jonathan P. Singer.

A group of eight Scarlet Knights has been selected for a NASA University Student Research Challenge (USRC) grant! This would make Rutgers the only University to have received this prestigious award twice. NASA’s USRC grant awards students for innovative ideas that can make contributions to the future of aviation. Alongside the technical objectives, this grant challenges students to act as entrepreneurs and raise money for their projects through crowdfunding.

Professor DeMauro has been awarded a grant from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research for a project entitled "A Passive Strategy for Improving Aero-Optics Through a Supersonic Shear Layer.” This is a 3.5-year project, involving collaboration with the Air Force Research Laboratory at Kirtland AFB, with Professor DeMauro as the primary investigator.

When Soham Shah began planning the logistics for this year’s Rutgers University Dance Marathon, he drew on some skills he didn’t expect to use from his experience as a mechanical engineering major. Creating the layout and schedule for an event, finding the materials for activities and transporting them to a site were all part of Shah’s work as an engineering project leader at Rutgers.
