The Rockland Astronomy Club hosts the largest and most exciting space, science, and astronomy show in the United States, the Northeast Astronomy Forum (Tm) featuring world-renowned speakers, workshops, solar observing, planetarium shows and America’s largest astronomy exhibitor floor. Rutgers Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering brought one of their teaching lab wind tunnels and a 2016 Senior Design Project to the exhibit.

Rutgers-led team invents promising technology for killing microbes   Imagine wearing clothes with layers of paper that protect you from dangerous bacteria.   A Rutgers-led team has invented an inexpensive, effective way to kill bacteria and sanitize surfaces with devices made of paper.

Jubilee Prasad Rao, a PhD student in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department (MAE), finished second at LaunchR, a Rutgers student-run clean technology innovation contest and startup accelerator funded by the United States Department of Energy and PSEG. Rao was awarded $15,000 to start his own company based on turbine technology to capture tidal energy. He is the co-inventor with Prof. Diez of this patent pending technology.

Aaron has been awarded an NSF CAREER Award for his proposal titled Papertronic Sensors for Concurrent Bioelectrical and Sweat-based Diagnostics. The award will provide $500,000 from 2017 to 2022. Assistant Professor Howon Lee has been awarded a 2016 Haythornthwaite Foundation Research Initiation Grant by ASME Applied Mechanics Division. This award targets university faculty engaged in research in theoretical and applied mechanics that are at the beginning of their academic careers.
